The FIT model

One of the most common questions I’ve read about of late has to do with how we connect with visitors. A visitor is someone who comes to class or worship for the first time. A visitor — individual, couple, or family — has probably googled your website and has a general idea already forming in their mind. The trust they give you entering through the physical doors will either confirm their idea — an opportunity to establish a rapport — or confirm any suspicions — real or felt — and they’ll leave never to return.

The opportunity should not be lost on those who claim N~Leadership skills.

N~Leaders follow the FIT™ model to connect with others. The FIT™ model is based on years of experience deducing just how connections work in church world. As one slogan put it, “where strangers become friends and friends become family.”

The first thing a visitor wants is a face to face connection. A human touch often initiated by a formal greeting and small talk to open the door to communication.

I made up a sayin one time called a hug-shake. It was a humorous way to help members break the ice with visitors and others across the pews with whom they might not be familiar. I’ve travelled over 50,000 miles in the last 14 months. I can say the churches that give the best impressions at friendliness are the ones who first initiate a face to face connection.

It’s like opening a door for a visitor to enter. Both physically and emotionally a face to face connection says, “Welcome!”
