Mindfulness and humility are what is needed

Thank you for talking to me earlier today about my speaking anxiety. I think in addition to my anxiety its also my ego that is blocking me from being fully present in the speaking situations.

I wonder what I can do to overcome this?

Mindfulness and humility are what is needed.

Mindfulness is the state of being mindful. To be mindful is to keep our thoughts in the present moment with what is before us to accomplish. When I get distracted with anxiousness about unknown factors — what will people think of me, my speech, my attire, what million things could go wrong, etc. — I ask myself, “what do I need to do right now?” Mindfulness is the conscious focus on what is within my control. I can control what I say about myself. I can control how I speak.  I can control how I present myself. Mindfulness helps us stay centered in the now.

Humility is born of mindfulness. We all have different strengths and weaknesses we bring to the table. It takes a good dose of mindful humility to take stock of where we are at in the “right now” and accept our strengths and weaknesses as they are. But, it is the only way to grow either.

Be mindful. Be humble. And, with practice you can grow into being fully present and engaged in your communication.
